Invisalign Or Damon Braces: Which Is Right For You?

If you are considering braces, there are several alternatives to traditional braces, such as Invisalign and Damon braces. As you look at the features of the orthodontic appliances, you may find that one is more suitable for your needs than another. Here is a brief overview of Invisalign and Damon braces to help you determine the option that is right for you:

Invisalign

How does it work?

Invisalign uses clear aligners to progressively straighten your teeth. The aligners are replaced periodically. Once the straightening of one aligner is complete, which usually takes about two weeks, a new set of aligners is used to advance you to the next level of your treatment.

Can you easily clean your teeth?

Invisalign makes dental hygiene easy. The aligners are removable, so you simply take them out before you brush and floss your teeth. Nevertheless, you should wear your aligners at least 20 to 22 hours daily until your treatment is complete.

How long does the straightening process take?

Invisalign is usually able to straighten adult teeth within about a year. However, for teen patients, the straightening time is approximately the same as that of traditional braces.

Cost

The cost is approximately $4,000 to $7,000.

Damon System Braces

How do they work?

Damon system braces straighten your teeth in a manner similar to traditional braces. However, they tend to be more comfortable and produce faster results.

The system uses the brackets of the braces to hold the arch wire in place, reducing the friction that needs to be overcome throughout the alignment process. With traditional braces, elastic bands are used to press the arch wire against the braces. This creates a great deal friction, so additional force has to be used to compensate for the friction and move the misaligned teeth.

Are they comfortable?

Damon braces tend to be more comfortable than traditional braces because less force is needed to shift the teeth.

Can you easily clean your teeth?

Damon braces are not removable, so you still have to clean around the brackets of the appliance. However, there are no elastic ligatures in the way as there are with traditional braces.

How long does the straightening process take?

The time required to straighten your teeth is usually less than that required by traditional braces.

What is the cost?

On average, you can expect to spend between $3,800 and $8,000 for Damon braces. The cost is similar to that of traditional braces. However, as with all braces, the final cost will depend on the length of treatment and the difficulty of the alignment.

If you are considering braces, there are multiple treatment options available. Contact an orthodontist, such as those at Port Orchard Dental Care Center, to see which one is right for you.
